Othoni is the legendary island, where Nymph Kalypso had been holding Ulysses a wonderful tourist destination, ideal for sailing, trekking, nature watching and fishing, and is the biggest one of the Diapontia islands(about 6 km wide and about 3,6 km long). Othoni island has many hills and some of them are 400 meters above the sea level. There are many villages but most of them are inhabited only during the summer. Othoni island offers some nice beaches and the famous cave of Nymph Kalypso.

This is a real small island so be prepared not to have a lot of options. In taverna called ‘Katrokios’ you will find every day at least two cooked meals or meat or fish of the hour. The ‘New York’ for ouzo, souvlaki and no cooked food. And for very good Italian food visit ‘Locanda Dei Sogni’. The recently open ‘Nostimon Imar’ is nicely positioned and meals carefully prepared but you maybe find it expensive.
There shops and tavernas gathered around the port of Ammos, where the boat will leave you. A surface road leads to Chorio (11km), the main village of the island. Explore the narrow lanes with their traditional houses, the old churches, the ruins of the Venetian castle and enjoy the suburb view of Corfu and the rest of the island.
Walking in the island is easy since there is no traffic. During the day but especially in the evening you will love the smell of sage, thyme and other aromatic plants mixed with that of berries.
Island offer great places for swimming but some of them are only approachable by boat.
During all summer it is possible to reach Diapontia islands by a regular ferryboat service from Corfu town or from the tourist villages of Sidari and Agios Stefanos.
